November 14, 2024 at 7:16 pmI saw this movie with my sister and we find it a refreshing one on the horror genre that delivers more depth than expected. Instead of typical horror schlock, it offers a thought-provoking storyline centered around religious belief, makng it well worth a watch.
It has three main charactrs, with strong performances from Sophie Thatcher and Chloe East as the two young missionaries. Both actresses bring nuance to their roles, making their characters engaging and believable. Yet, it’s Hugh Grant who steals the spotlight with his portrayal of Mr. Reed. His performance is both eerie and subtly playful, adding a touch of campiness that makes his character even more unsettling.
The horror parts are kept lowkey and not too intense, but the film stays tense the whole time, with a few good jump scares added in. This movie may not be too scary, but it is tense and engaging, making it a great choice for anyone looking to spend a couple of hours with a thriller that has substance.
